Launching a major initiative within your organization is not unlike setting off on a large-scale expedition. You can’t just throw darts at the map and set out alone. A great plan significantly ups the odds of success.
To get where you’re going, you need a great plan. Just ask Lewis & Clark.
Imagine you actually are embarking on an expedition into uncharted territories. It starts with diligent planning – an “advance team” – of key leaders to do some initial scouting and rough out a course of action.
Your advance team will create the initial map, a 30,000-foot view. It’s a draft plan, a vision document that looks out into the future 3-5 years. Over the course of about 30 days, It will evolve into a final document.
The team will ask the tough questions about the historic strengths, weaknesses, successes and failures of the organization. What happened and why? And they’ll assess the present. How did we get where we are; how strong is our team; how deep are our resources; and what’s the competitive climate? Do we have everything – and everyone – we need to accomplish what we’re setting out to do?
Next, some details need to be added to the map, to zoom in and chart specific routes, obstacles and milestones. What is it really going to take to get from St. Louis to Oregon, on foot? Resource needs are defined, specific roles and responsibilities assigned, and teams are assembled.
In the end, you have a comprehensive actionable plan, one that your entire organization is aligned to support. There are defined metrics for success and a strategy for amending the plan as the landscape changes and your organization evolves.
Leriot Principals will guide you through this detailed process, step-by-step, from assembling a planning team to the final draft of the plan to rollout and beyond.
At Westcott Homes we worked with Bill on forecasting, business planning, and structure of management. You can’t understand avenues to growth until you gain awareness of where you are currently. Bill knocked us out of our comfort zone so that we could move forward.
